Description
Koran Angelfish, is a tropical marine fish known for its dramatic transformation in appearance from juvenile to adult. Adults are generally brownish-green with blue-spotted, tall, compressed bodies, while juveniles are dark blue-black with distinctive concentric white and light blue semicircular markings.
Behavior
The behavior of the Semicircle Angelfish (Pomacanthus semicirculatus), or often known as the Newspaper Angelfish, is characterized by drastic changes between juvenile and adult phases, as well as its territorial nature in its natural habitat in the Indo-Pacific coral reefs.
Reproduction
These fish generally live in pairs or solitary. Spawning occurs at dusk, when a pair of fish swims close together and releases eggs and sperm into the water column.
Communication & Perception
Juveniles are dark blue with white and light blue semicircles across their bodies. This pattern serves as camouflage and signals to other fish that they are juveniles, often helping to avoid aggression from adults. Angelfish are known for their excellent visual recognition of their surroundings.
