Common Bluestripe Snapper

Description

The Bluestripe Snapper has a bright yellow color with four thin blue stripes and a black line along its sides. Its belly is white with a faded gray stripe and bright yellow fins. 

Behavior

They are generally found in shallow lagoons or coral reef slopes, forming large groups near coral, caves, or large debris during the day. Juveniles tend to be found in shallow seagrass beds. 

Reproduction

They reproduce through broadcast spawning, releasing large quantities of eggs and sperm into the water column, typically in groups. 

Communication & Perception

Bluestripe snapper communicate primarily through social behaviors, structural schooling, and specific tactile interactions, especially during mating. They are highly social, gregarious fish that form large schools, particularly during the day around coral reefs and wrecks.
