Description
The tuxedo urchin is called as such due to its no-spine zones that have a velvety texture, coming in elegant blue/green shades that resemble a tuxedo. The spines on this urchin is also dark in color, red, or brown.
Behavior
It is a nocturnal forager, and would hide in reef crevices during the day. Commonly found in most shallow tropical waters, especially around coral rubble or seagrass beds.
This urchin is often found collecting rubble, algae and debris on its body as an attempt at camouflage and self-protection.
Reproduction
It is found closer inshore on breeding seasons. Fertilization is external and egg brooding is common, usually placed somewhere on its body.
Communication & Perception
When a sea urchin is injured or dies, it releases a chemical signal to warn other urchins of the presence of a predator or other dangers. The other urchins can "smell" this chemical through their tube feet and quickly make their escape. They can also sense light (i.e. "see") that is absorbed in their spines.
The sea urchin has also been observed using physical contact with each other to communicate, especially in the presence of food, helping to keep their population stable in places with abundance of algae.

Fun Fact
Sea urchins have a special organ called "Aristotle's Lantern", which is basically a set of strong jaws that is similar to teeth in structure, and is used to crush hard materoa; and scrape encrusting algae off of rocks.
