Description
The threadfin cardinalfish has a silvery white, translucent body with a distinctive blue streak near its eye and operculum. The blue streak is normally not as visible on juveniles. It has large eyes to maximize the amount of light entering at night, supporting its nocturnal lifestyle.
Behavior
Nocturnal, it is forages more actively during the night. This fish tend to form large schools with other fish like the orangelined cardinalfish (Taeniamia fucata) and the girdled cardinalfish (T. zosterophora), hiding among the branches of a Porites cylindrica coral.
Reproduction
Obligate monogamists, form distinct one-on-one pairs regardless of resource availability. It is a paternal mouthbrooder, meaning that the males will keep fertilized eggs safe in its mouth until they're ready to hatch.
Communication & Perception
Uses sounds and visual signals to communicate. This fish can also sense vibrations with its lateral line.

The threadfin cardinalfish is also known as the "ghost cardinalfish" or the "glass cardinalfish" due to its translucent body. Under a bright light, you can clearly see its internal organs!
