Description

Their body is deep green to dark olive, often appearing almost entirely black, The most defining feature is the bright pink, magenta, or pale pink-white tail fin, which often has a white base where it joins the body 

Behavior

The Triggerfish gets its name from the trigger mechanism on its three dorsal fin spines. When threatened, the fish will squeeze itself into a narrow gap, using the second spine as a trigger to lock the first spine in an upright position. Once the danger has passed, the trigger of the second spine will reactivate and release the fish. 

Reproduction

They are oviparous, egg-laying fish that reproduce by forming distinct, monogamous pairs in the wild. They are known for their territorial nature, creating and defending nests during breeding, which typically occurs in warmer months  

Communication & Perception

Pinktail triggerfish communicate primarily through body language, specialized structural displays, and acoustic sounds, particularly to express aggression, warn of threats, or manage territorial boundaries
