Description

This vibrant Indo-Pacific reef fish known for its pale body, yellow tail/dorsal areas, and two distinct dark diagonal bars on its head and shoulder. 

Behavior

Adults and large juveniles are usually found in pairs on reef slopes, in estuaries, and in coastal coral reefs, often at depths down to 12 meters. Small juveniles, however, are found in groups, often hiding among mangrove roots for protection  

Reproduction

This species reproduces through external fertilization, spawning at dusk during warmer months. Their reproductive cycle is typically synchronized with the lunar cycle, specifically around the first quarter moon  

Communication & Perception

This species communicates primarily through visual cues such as dramatic color changes and body positioning, often in conjunction with pair-bonding behavior.
