Description

The Shireen nudibranch is a shell-less sea slug in the Phyllidiidae family. This species is very distinctive and popular among underwater photographers because of its wavy dorsal shape, beautiful pale pink coloration with thin black stripes, and salmon-pink rhinophores (sensory organs on the head). 

Behavior

Soft-shelled mollusks known for their striking, bright colors and unique body shapes. They rely heavily on vision to detect light and dark, use rhinophores (head tentacles) to smell, and are hermaphroditic (having both sexes).

Reproduction

Nudibranchs are simultaneous hermaphrodites, meaning they possess both male and female reproductive organs. Despite possessing both organs, they cannot self-fertilize.

Communication & Perception

Nudibranchs (sea slugs) do not communicate using sound, but instead rely heavily on chemical communication and sensory perception for survival, feeding, and mating.
