Description

It has a light brown or beige body densely speckled with small dark spots. The head is noticeably grey or brownish-grey with prominent white or silvery irises

Behavior

This species is typically solitary, shallow-water reef dweller, often seen with its head protruding from crevices during the day, these nocturnal carnivores hunt small fish and crustaceans. While generally non-aggressive, they can show territoriality. 

Reproduction

Greyface moray eels reproduce via external fertilization, where males and females release eggs and sperm into the water column, often in shallow coastal waters.

Communication & Perception

The greyface moray primarily communicates and interacts with its environment through physical, chemical, and behavioral cues. As nocturnal, cryptic predators, their communication is adapted to low-light, crevice-dwelling lifestyle
