Description
The blue damselfish features a bright blue coloration that covers its entire body—from the face to the tail—though the color typically fades to a blue-green hue towards the underside.
Behavior
The Blue Damselfish is a hardy reef dweller that primarily feeds in the water column, yet it can exhibit territorial and aggressive behavior toward similar species when establishing its territory. Established pairs often attack fish of similar size that approach their breeding grounds.
Reproduction
This is an oviparous fish that spawns during the summer, typically depositing its eggs on the branches of *Acropora* coral. The male guards the nesting site and protects and aerates the demersal eggs until they hatch.
Communication & Perception
This fish employs a complex multimodal communication system—combining acoustic signals (sound), visual patterns, and UV perception—to regulate social hierarchies, mating, and territorial defense.
Predator
Grouper, snapper, lionfish
Conservation Status : Least Concern
