Description

This fish is flattened in its sides, with a body with a pale brown coloration that darkens to black as it reaches the tail, with irregular, green longitudinal lines along its flank. It has a long snout and has tiny green specks.

Behavior

Lives in groups of up to 20 individuals. Although juveniles tend to be solitary. Prefer lagoons and seaward reefs, with lots of coral coverage to act as shelter. Graze on filamentous algae on rocks or corals.

Reproduction

Social and facultative monogamists. Can be found forming groups to spawn together. Paired fish will swim quickly to the surface to spawn, and the fecundated eggs will be released to the water column to develop by themselves.

Predator

Larger predatory fish, crabs and octopus.
