Description:
Large, brown or tan, often with a grayish or white center. They have a "button" shape and a thick, fleshy stalk.
Behavior:
Unlike true anemones, it is not entirely solitary. Several individual polyps live embedded and connected to each other in a common tissue mat (coenenchyme), which is often supplemented by sand, sediment, or rocks collected at the bottom.
Reproduction:
They can reproduce sexually by releasing sperm and eggs in the water to fertilize and asexually through budding

They communicate through a combination of chemical signaling, specialized mucus, and physical connectivity within their colonies

Fun Fact:
Some zoanthid species contain palytoxin, a toxic fatty alcohol that can cause respiratory problems, paralysis, and even death. Although the concentration varies from species to species, handlers should exercise caution and wear gloves.
