Description

Also known as coral beauty or dusky angelfish, they are characterized by their striking purplish blue coloration and bright orange markings on its flank. The margins of its fins are bright blue.

Behavior

These fish are secretive, and are protogynous hermaphrodites, where females can change sex into males to replace any dead or missing males in the harem.

Reproduction

They form harems where one male can mate with several females. The eggs are released into the water and fertilized externally / outside of the fish's body, and will hatch within 12 - 18 hours.

Communication

This fish uses body language and sound to communicate.

Predator

Larger predatory bony fish and sharks.

IUCN Red List: Least Concern (2010)

It has a small mouth, protrusible jaws and bristle-like teeth! Perfect for scraping algae from reef surfaces and hard-to-reach crevices!
