Skunk Anemonefish

Habitat & Distribution :  near anemones, reef-associated, at depths of 3 - 25 m, Indian Ocean

Diet : Zooplankton, algae and small crustaceans

Size: Up to 11 cm

Lifespan: 6 - 10 years

Description

These fish are bright orange in color, and have a characteristic white stripe from its mouth all the way to their caudal peduncle, similar to a skunk's stripe.

Behavior

Like other clownfish, these fish are very territorial. They guard their anemones using sounds such as clicks and chirps.

Reproduction

These fish are monogamous, and the females lay their eggs near their anemone for protection, and are guarded by the male until they hatch.

Communication & Perception

They primarily communicate using underwater acoustics by popping their jaws, producing some popping and clicking sounds.

Predator

Moray eels, lionfish, snappers, groupers and other larger predatory fish
