Description

The bubble tip anemone, as its name suggests, is characterized by the bulbous tips of its tentacles, which come in many colors, from pink orange, red to green. The bulbous tentacle tips are usually only present in juveniles, as the tentacles become stringy in adults. Meanwhile, the body is brown, reddish or orange, though rarely visible due to being deeply embedded in crevices. Its pedal disc is considerably smaller.

Behavior

Juveniles are often found in groups or colonies, in shallower waters with more exposure ot sunlight. Meanwhile, adults are more solitary and prefer deeper, dimly lit waters. Semi-aggressive as adults.

Reproduction

Can reproduce asexually and sexually. Asexually, the parent splits itself, creating an identical clone (binary fission). Sexually, it engages in broadcast spawning, releasing gametes into the water for external fertilization.

Communication & Perception

Like other anemones, possess simple nerve nets. Can sense chemical cues and physical stimuli. Its tentacles are able to differentiate the non-self, thus preventing it from eating itself (autophagy).

Predator

Other anemones, nudibranchs, some angelfish, triggerfish and big wrasses.
