Description

It is a small, heavily armored marine fish known for its striking resemblance to a pine cone or pineapple. It has a distinctive yellow-to-orange body covered in large, rigid, and spiny plates rather than traditional scales.

Behavior

They are nocturnal, slow-swimming creatures known for their heavy, armor-like scales and bioluminescent, bacteria-powered, green-glowing, chin organs used to navigate and hunt in the dark. Primarily found in coral reefs at 2–100m depths, they spend days hiding in caves

Reproduction

They are believed to be pelagic spawners, releasing eggs into the water column with no parental care for the offspring.

Komunikasi & Persepsi

They communicate primarily through bioluminescence using specialized light organs, and potentially through sound production. As nocturnal , deep-water creatures, these methods allow them to interact in darkness.
