Description
This frog is the most variable amongst other poison frogs in terms of body coloration and pattern. It is commonly found to be mint green, but can also be forest or lime green, turquoise and cobalt blue or pale yellow. The green is often mixed with dark splotches ranging from brown to black, but they may also be dappled
Behavior
These frogs are active throughout the day, spending their time hopping around the forest floor, foraging, and climbing trees in search of food.
Reproduction
This frog has a relatively complex mating ritual amongst the poison dart frogs, they will usually aggregate in large groups. The males will fight to determine their respective territories, and then try to impress the wandering females with their bird-like mating calls. After the eggs hatch, the male carries the tadpoles on his back to small, water-filled spots
Communication & Perception
Similar to other Dart frogs, they communicate primarily through specialized acoustic calls, visual displays, and tactile cues to establish territories, attract mates, and express distress. Males use vocal sacs to produce species-specific buzzing or chirping calls.
