Description
This species coloration is mostly bright orange to orange-red in adults; mature males are of larger size, longer fins and with a distinct hump on their head.
Behavior
Midas cichlids have one nostril on each side while other fish have 2 sets. To sense "smells" in the water, they suck water in and expel the water right back out after being "sampled" for a short or longer time, depending on how much the cichlid needs to "smell" the water.
Reproduction
Midas cichlids could lay up to 1000 eggs on hard surfaces, they are dedicated parents, often caring for fry together
